Lightship Knits
The Challenge
Developing a custom fabric that balances the coldness of the glass windows through the softness of 3D knit, bringing attention towards the gathering space, lounge and dinette areas.
The Outcome
We choose the best to create our first line of sustainable knits, Byborre textiles are the future of on-demand textiles, made out of recycle polyester, using less water and allowing full design customization. We designed two textiles, the geometric bottom seat and the gradient backrest. Using Create™ to build a textile from the yarn up, and going though an extensive sampling process, incorporating a color pallet inspired by the American Landscape.
The Backrest needed to blend visually with the adjacent windows so a gradient naturally brought that lightness while wrapping the entire seating/sleeping area, creating a fun pod where to hang out and relax. In contrast, the seat bottom needed to be even more resilient, since it will be use as a bedding and as seating. Balancing sleeping comfort and clean-ability.

The geometric pattern was designed to enhance the architecture of the lounge area and dinette, using 6 different yarns and filled patterns that made the textile 3D. The irregular patterns and textures are quite permissive and can be use and abused.
In contrast, the backrest is a gradient that mimics a sunrise, a visually lightweight textile that adds warmth to the space, balancing out the coldness of the surrounding glass.
